Jordan calls on Israel to respect Jerusalem’s historical status
Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi underlined on Friday the necessity for Israel to respect the legal and historical position quo in Jerusalem while dragging all obstacles that hinder worshippers’ freedom to pray.
Safadi’s call was made in a phone chat with the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, in which the two inspiring efforts to end the anxieties and correct calm at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
The Jordanian foreign minister emphasized the need to find political solutions to restore the peace process and complete peace based on the two-state solution.
Guterres called for more steps to maintain calm while emphasizing the need to respect the status quo and refrain from provocative steps.
Safadi conveyed gratitude for the UN’s appeal for appreciating the status quo in the holy sites in Jerusalem and praised the UN’s efforts to activate the peace process.
