Lavrov: Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan is an attempt to outrage China
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov gets upset after Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan.
On Wednesday, Sergei Lavrov said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan was a deliberate attempt by Washington to outrage China.
Lavrov, who is currently visiting Myanmar, added, “I see no other reason to cause such alarm for almost no reason, knowing very well what this means for the People’s Republic of China.”
Pelosi’s arrival on Tuesday in Taiwan, which China regards as a breakaway territory, prompted an angry reaction from Beijing at a time when international tensions are already running high due to the conflict in Ukraine.
On Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in Myanmar’s capital, Naipedua, for a working visit, according to Russian TASS.
Lavrov met with Myanmar’s Foreign Minister Wona Maung Lwin and is scheduled to meet with other officials later.
Lavrov is to travel later to Cambodia, where he will participate in the Russian-Southeast Asian (ASEAN) Forum of Foreign Ministers and will hold a number of bilateral meetings.
