Syria intercepts Israeli missile attack after 3 people killed: SANA
“The Israeli enemy carried out an attack that led to the death of three people and some material losses,” Syria’s official news agency SANA reported.
Syrian air defenses intercepted Israeli missile attacks near Damascus, state media reported on Friday.
“Our air defenses have stopped a series of hostile missiles in the airspace of the southern Damascus countryside,” said the official Syrian news agency SANA.
AFP correspondents in the Syrian capital said they heard very loud noises in the evening.
The war monitor of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the target of the Israeli attacks was the Iranian bases near Damascus.
The latest attack follows the one on May 14 which killed five soldiers and another on April 27 which, according to the Observatory, killed 10 fighters, including six Syrian soldiers, in the deadliest raid since early 2022.
Since the civil war broke out in Syria in 2011, Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes, targeting government positions, bases, and weapons depots for Iranian-backed allied forces and fighters of the Lebanese Shiite militant group Hezbollah.
While Israel rarely comments on individual attacks, it acknowledged that hundreds have increased.
The Israeli military defended them as necessary to prevent its archenemy Iran from taking hold on its doorstep.
The conflict in Syria has killed nearly half a million people and forced about half of the country’s pre-war population to flee their homes.
