UN said that over 25.5M Yemenis live under the poverty line after the International Organization for Migration (IOM) warned on Friday that over 25.5 million Yemenis are living in poverty as a result of the country’s seven-year-long civil war.
The UN migration agency also said on Twitter, using the hashtag “Yemen Can’t-Wait,” that the fighting had uprooted over 4 million people and forced more than 2 million children out of school.
Since 2014, when the Iran-aligned Houthis controlled much of the nation, including the capital Sanaa, Yemen has been mired in violence and chaos.
The conflict has generated one of the world’s biggest man-made humanitarian catastrophes, with nearly 80% of the country’s population in need of humanitarian aid and protection, and more than 13 million people in danger of hunger, according to UN estimates.
