Hepatitis outbreaks among world’s children
Around 190 mysterious cases of hepatitis among the world’s children on Tuesday have been monitored mostly for children under the age of 10 according to the European Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.
The disease first emerged in Britain this month, where 111 cases have since been recorded in at least 12 countries around the world.
Director of the European Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, Andrea Amon, told reporters that the number includes 40 cases in EU and EEA countries as well as cases in the United States and Israel.
The European Centre for Disease Control and Prevention examines cases alongside local authorities and the World Health Organization.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said 17 children needed liver transplants due to recent infections and one died.
